Your Hosts

We have had an interest in Carlton Ware for approximately 30 years, after accidentally stumbling across the marque in an old fashioned village shop deep in the heart of Suffolk. Our knowledge gradually broadened, assisted by membership of CWCI until its demise, following which, Carlton Ware World. As a result, we decided to concentrate on collecting art deco Best Ware, although Handcraft, Carlton China, as well as the Chocolate Mugs have their own attractions.

As we became frustrated by the lack of detailed information available, especially the outstanding ceramic designer, Violet Elmer, we sought to improve matters and were able to produce our book “Cast Aside the Shadows”. However, the subject of the Carlton Works and all that goes with it is so vast that it seems unlikely that a definitive tome will ever be created.

Over the years we have managed to assemble a small archive relating to Violet including artwork, ceramics, photographs and watercolours.

Our present day activity relates to the social history of our home town of Ipswich. Under the banner of ‘Anguish Street Books’ we have so far published “Ipswich – Memories of a Special Town together with its companion “Band of Brothers”.
